Linda's Story
At the moment I don't have a really outstanding story to tell you about my experiences in Reiki.
What I know and believe, that since I had my attunement in Usui Reiki One, I don't suffer headaches anymore, when before almost every morning I suffered from splitting headaches on waking up.  I am amazed how Reiki worked to get rid of my headache.  I feel I am a different person - my outlook in life has changed from being a worrier and a pessimist to being relaxed and optimistic and confident.

The Light in the Corner
While I was doing voluntary work in our local hospice, one of the nurses asked me to sit with a patient who had become very restless and disoriented, and although he was unable to stand, was very agitated, and trying to climb out of bed.  I sat with him and held his hand, asking that Reiki flow to wherever it was needed.  After a few moments, he began to calm down, and then I noticed that he was staring very intently at an upper corner of the room.  I followed his gaze, and noticed a faint golden ball of light shimmering in the corner.

He appeared to be listening with rapt attention, and after a while began to mumble something quietly, as if  answering somebody, and then stopped to listen again.  This went on for a while, with periods of listening, and answering, as an unknown conversation was going on, with his gaze firmly fixed on the light in the corner.

After a while he relaxed totally, closed his eyes, and went to sleep.  I watched him for a while, as he slept with a very peaceful look on his face.  He died three days later, very peacefully.

The Promise
A friend who is a nurse had to have emergency surgery, with only two day's notice of a major operation.  She was someone who was accustomed to always being there for others, and always going the extra mile whenever anyone was in need.  She was not used to being the patient.
I offered to send Reiki, and sent in advance to the surgical team and my friend before the operation, with a promise to send more Reiki after the surgery to help in her recovery.

In the meantime I got on with my day, and forgot about my promise.  At 2.15 pm I felt a tap on the crown of my head, a reminder of my promise.  I immediately stopped what I was doing and sent Reiki.  The next day I was talking to another friend who had phoned to let me know how things were going, and who had also sent healing, and she told me that at 2.15 pm my friend was being wheeled out of surgery, and had woken about half and hour later, feeling very calm.

10 Minutes
An aquaintance who is a beauty therapist had offered to give me a facial as an exchange for a massage, and I had my first ever facial for my 49th birthday.  While waiting in the reception area, I became aware of emotional turmoil, and anxiety.  During the facial, she had acted in her best professional manner, but as we were talking, she admitted that there were big issues she was dealing with at the time.  I offered her Reiki after the facial, but as she had another client booked, we only had 10 mins.  Somehow, the Reiki knew this was all the time we had, and it was an amazing session, with both of us feeling very intense energies.  It was if 60 minutes of Reiki had been condensed into 10 mins, and it turned off just before her next client arrived.  She felt much calmer for the rest of the day, but later that evening was able to release a lot of emotional tension.  Again, it was if the Reiki knew she had to get through the day, before being able to let go.

Peaceful Baby
When my first granddaughter was born, my son and daughter in law were living with us, while saving for their own home.  They had their own area downstairs, while we lived upstairs.  One evening when the baby was only a few week's old, I could hear that her mother was having trouble settling her.  She had been crying for some time, which can be quite distressing for a new mother, so I sent her some distant Reiki. Within moments, the crying stopped, and all felt peaceful.  Later in the evening, her mother came upstairs, and mentioned how upset the baby had been, when she suddenly stopped crying, and went straight to sleep. She was amazed how quickly she had gone from one state to another, until I told her that I had sent Reiki.  On another occasion, a couple of months later, my granddaughter was having a bad day, and had become quite distressed with crying.  Her mother brought her upstairs, and asked for Reiki for her.  We lay her on the couch, and gave her Reiki, and again, almost immediately, she stopped crying.  She then turned her head and looked at me very intently while I was giving her Reiki, as if she knew exactly what I was doing.  Her mother has since learned Reiki herself.

The old Dog
Not long after I had learned Reiki I was delivering an item for a customer on the way home from work.  I parked on the roadway, and then walked down to the house.  They had a long, steep, driveway, and halfway down the driveway an old dog came hobbling up to meet me and lay down in front of me blocking my path.  I bent down and patted him, and then walked around him. I had only taken a few more steps, before he again lay down in front of me.

I again patted him, and held my hands on him for a short time to give him a little Reiki, and then took a few more steps down the driveway, only to find him in front of me again.  He was very insistant, leaning against the front of my legs, before lying down at my feet. I continued this way down the driveway, with the animal blocking my way every few steps.  I finally reached the door, and delivered the item, with the dog still trying to get my attention.

The owner called him away, but he was reluctant to move.  They said that this was not his normal behaviour, as usually he kept his distance from strangers, or barked at them.  If I had been a bit more confident, I would have mentioned Reiki to the owner, and given the dog a treatment, but all I did was ask for Reiki to flow as I patted him, hoping he would get enough.

My first patient
My first patient (meaning the first time I had actually been asked to give Reiki) was a very elderly male cat with kidney problems.  My confidence had been starting to drop at this stage. I worked often on myself, but didn't always feel a lot of energy flowing.

When I arrived at my friend's house, I found her cat lying on her bed, with water and food within reach, as he was unable to move.  The vet had done all she could, and he wasn't getting any better.  I stroked him, and then placed my hands on his back.  I hadn't asked my friend which side was worst, but moved my hands to his right side and held them lightly over the kidney area.  I could feel the Reiki flowing, and the cat seemed content to accept the energy.

After several minutes, the cat stood up, and very unsteadily turned himself around and positioned himself so that his left side was directly under my hands.  (I hadn't moved my hands as he turned).  My friend then told me that this was his "bad" side.  He lay there quietly for several more minutes, and then moved over to his food, ate nearly everything in his bowl, and had a drink, before making himself comfortable, and settling down for a sleep.

My friend was amazed, as this was the first time he had eaten for several days, and she had been unable to tempt him with even the slightest morsel. He died several days later, as it was his time, but to me it was real proof of the power of Reiki, and I felt it was his gift to me at a time when I was beginning to have doubts.

My Friend
One of my first Reiki lessons happened when I offered Reiki to a friend who had been involved in a car accident, and had sustained permanant damage.  It had been quite a journey for her.

I visited her once a week after work, and we sat together and talked, while I gave her Reiki.  We talked over and over about the accident, her feelings and frustrations.  Some weeks there seemed to be a slight improvement, slightly less pain, or reduced swelling, and other weeks there seemed to be no difference. Sometimes she could feel the Reiki flowing, and other times not.  After about six months, it was becoming difficult to keep the appointments going.  Sometimes I would be the one to cancel a session, and sometimes my friend would cancel, and we decided to discontinue.  I felt as though not a lot had been achieved, but at least we had given it a good try.

I didn't see a lot of my friend for a time after that, as she lived some distance away, but about a year later we were talking, and she mentioned the visits and the Reiki, and said how much it had helped her emotionally to come to terms with her loss, and that during those times she had worked through so much, and had afterwards been able to accept her limitations and to get on with life.

At this stage I also had a much better understanding of how Reiki worked, and about non-attachment to results, and had grown a lot with my work.  I was so grateful for the feedback, and the demonstration of the wisdom of Reiki to go where it is needed, not where we think it is needed.  This experience had taught me a lot.
