How we live our lives

We all live our lives in a certain way and certain principles by which we
stand.  Reiki has five main principles (every lineage has a slightly different
version but the meaning is similar):

Just for Today do not Worry,
Just for Today do not Anger
Honour your Parents, Teachers and Elders,
Earn you Living Honestly,
Show Gratitude to Everything.

It is important not to worry because worry can cause disease. It has been
proven that worriers suffer more from various illnesses than the carefree
person.  By worrying, we end up by ruining our day and not enjoying the moment. By
living in the moment, we have no room for worry as we become totally
immersed in what we are doing. We are living in the present called "present" as it is a
"present from God".

Why worry about yesterday? Yesterday is the past. The past is only useful as
a teaching tool. If we have learnt the lesson, then past is no longer useful.
Why worry about tomorrow? Tomorrow is another dayand if we take care of today,
tomorrow will take care of itself.

So, in fact, there is no need to worry. All is taken care of as long as we
live in the moment. We must also learn to do our very best and leave the
outcome to the Divine.

When one gets angry and although we may not be aware of it our health
suffers and it takes a long time for our body to get rid of the negativity.

Let's take the example of a "road rage" incident which seems to happen more
and more frequently on our roads. Would it not be better to just make the
other driver aware that he/she was in the wrong by the use of the horn rather than
start chasing the "offending" car which can be extremely dangerous for
everyone. Perhaps we will also make a mistake another day. Let's learn to be
tolerant and stop our anger.

Have you ever looked at yourself when you are angry? Who is that peculiar
person shouting, getting all red and gesticulating like a windmill? If we
look at ourselves in a detached way we will soon realise how silly we look!!!  It is

then best to laugh and relax. Is it so important to get angry? Just a
passing cloud, nothing else. There is more to life than getting angry. Tomorrow we
will have forgotten all about our anger.

In the West, in today's society, honouring parents, teachers and elders is
now getting less and less common. It is often different in the East and It
is refreshing to see how people from different cultures honour their family and
friends.

The problem in our society is that many parents no longer teach respect to
their children. Many children are not taught right from wrong from a young
age and become very unruly teenagers. Children are no longer taught to be
responsible and they expect everyone else to be responsible for their
happiness.  Until they are taught that happiness comes from within and not from outside
influences, there will be problems and much unhappiness.
We have also become very materialistic. The lack of understanding what life
is all about has brought a kind of unrest.

Children should be taught to have compassion for others and to treat them as
they would like to be treated themselves. Competition should be with oneself
rather than with others - doing one's very best, whatever the result.
Only when righteousness, compassion and love are taught will children honour
their parents, teachers and elders.

Honesty is so important too. Not only should we not steal but we also have
to be honest with ourselves and others. We must not pretend to be what we are
not and we must learn to speak the truth. We have to live with ourselves and
it is a much nicer life if we have an honest heart.

Showing gratitude to everything and everyone makes life much easier too.
Let's be grateful for everything which happens during the day. It if it is
good, what a blessing. If problems arise, what a blessing too. These problems will
give us the opportunity to learn and to grow as a human being.

Let's thank the Divine every morning for the day ahead. This is a new day,
full of promises and lessons. And if we "fail" on certain subjects, never
mind, tomorrow is another day, again full of promises.
At the end of the day, let's not forget to thank the Divine for the day
which was given to us. Let's be grateful for all the wonders of life, most of them
being free such as a glorious sunset, beautiful flowers, wonderful scenery .

The above five Reiki Principles are therefore a very good basis for a good
life. By following them, we will become better persons and the world will
become a better world to live in. Can you imagine what it would be like if we all
decided one day to truly follow these principles all the time???   How
wonderful our lives would become, how wonderful the world would be.

Let's live for the moment with the Divine in our heart and all will be well.
